Glen Helen welcomes Jeanette Wormald to the stage

Jeanette Wormald returns to Glen Helen this week for her first performance of 2014.  Catch her in the homestead Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of April.

This will be the first of several performances by Jeanette at Glen Helen in 2014. See our in house performances page for the full 2014 musicians calendar.

Jeanette Wormald

Jeanette Wormald’s voice resonates with the essence of Australia. A journalist by trade, she began telling stories through song after moving to regional South Australia.

Her music and lyrics are inspired by the land’s people, environment and colours. Her fresh, feminine style has won national awards and national and international acclaim for its celebration of Australia’s colonial and Indigenous heritage.

Jeanette’s evocative, perceptive songs draw on a range of musical styles from lyrical country-folk to shades of jazz and blues. Delivered with a crystal clear voice and powerful and endearing stage presence, she takes her audiences on a journey inland, to share her passion for and understanding of the Australian bush in a way few other women in this country have been able to achieve.

Jeanette has spent considerable time working with Indigenous communities in the deserts of Northern Territory and South Australia, and is one of very few songwriters to celebrate Indigenous languages in her lyrics. She has collaborated closely with the Anangu people of Oak Valley in the Maralinga Tjarutja lands and the Raukkan Ngarrindjeri community, and has enormous respect for their strong spirituality and connection to country.

That respect and sense of belonging come through in many of her songs from her four albums, including the beautiful “Maralinga Dawn” and “Pukulpa Days” from her most recent offering Opal Blue.

In 2009 Jeanette moved to the Territory and her song-writing and musical journey has continued. In 2012 her vision led to the creation of the highly successful Alice Springs Courtyard Sessions – monthly outdoor concerts with a festival vibe that are an audio and visual feast for both musicians and audiences. Jeanette continues to co-ordinate these events along with regular house concerts and music workshops.
